We didn't realize what we had in our boy, Blocker. We did some training and box practice with Blocker as a youngster here at home and he seemed to do okay. Then we entered him into his first oval race meet in
Molalla, Ore. He blew us away by winning 5 ORC points. Later that spring we entered him again at a WWWA race meet in Roy, WA. and he won another 5 ORC points. We were
stunned. Never, and we mean "never" has this happened to any of our other whippets. But our luck ran out on the third race meet at an unusual field design he pulled up lame, and a suspected cruciate ligament rupture was what we were told. After a lot of hydrotherapy, and second and third opinions we ended up at WSU Veterinary School in Pullman, WA were he was diagnosed with a severe muscle pull. Our instructions were to keep him resting for the final months of 2006 and keep on with the hydrotherapy, and start conditioning in March of 2008 and when appropriate, let him go.
Let him go we did and Blocker has performed beautifully. He earned that ORC
title and has taken a 3rd
place in the Whippet Derby out of close to 100 whippets. In 2008 he ended up #14 in
the NOTRA National Point Standings. Congratulations to our beautiful boy for all his
accomplishments!
Plans are in the works for Blocker to become a dad. Stay tuned.
